Bandits attacked the Primary Healthcare Centre in Kuyallo, located in the eastern part of Birnin-Gwari local government area in Kaduna State, kidnapping two nurses and an unspecified number of patients.

Musa Alhassan, a leader of a local vigilante group, reported that the bandits first targeted the nearby Government Day Secondary School around 9 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024. When they discovered the school was empty, they shifted their focus to the nearby healthcare centre.

“The bandits arrived at the school seeking students, but finding it vacant, they proceeded to the healthcare centre and began kidnapping people,” Alhassan said.

The bandits, who initially sought to abduct students, instead took two female nurses and several patients hostage, causing widespread panic in the community. The exact number of patients taken remains unclear.

An eyewitness described the scene, saying, “The bandits entered the healthcare centre armed with guns and machetes, dragging people out of the hospital. We were powerless to intervene.”

This incident is part of an ongoing series of attacks by bandits in the state, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard communities and healthcare facilities.

Attempts to reach Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report. No official statement from the state government has been issued yet
