Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed Dr. Adamu Sambo from his position as Commissioner for Health. The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of three new commissioners and the Chief Security Adviser.
Governor Mohammed also revealed that his administration will discontinue appointing a commissioner to the Ministry of Local Government. This change follows the death of the former commissioner, Ahmed Jalam, in a car accident in June and the implementation of new local government legislation.
The governor stated that two commissioners had previously resigned to seek local government chairmanship positions, and the Chief Security Adviser had also been dismissed.
At the brief ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the state executive council meeting, Governor Mohammed explained, “We are here to address the vacancies created by the voluntary retirement of three commissioners to ensure equitable representation for each local government in the cabinet, as mandated by the constitution. We have decided to drop the former Commissioner for Health as part of a strategic move to reduce governance costs and align with the Supreme Court’s judgment on local government reforms. Consequently, we will no longer appoint a Commissioner for Local Government.”
Dr. Sani Dambam has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Health, replacing Dr. Sambo. Governor Mohammed added, “The decision to remove the former Commissioner for Health was not due to any shortcomings on his part, but rather a leadership decision aimed at streamlining our operations. We wish him well and will consider him for future roles within the government.”
The new appointments include Mrs. Zainab Babbatanka as Commissioner for Women Affairs, Engineer Mohammed Abdulkadir as Commissioner for Commerce, and Dr. Ahmed Abdurrahman as Chief Security Adviser.
