Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., triggering an emergency response from his aides and security personnel.
According to multiple government and medical sources, Ewhrudjakpo was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he was admitted into the Emergency Unit and later moved to the Intensive Care Unit. Despite frantic efforts by medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Ewhrudjakpo, who was 60 years old, had served as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State since February 2020 under Governor Douye Diri. Before his elevation to the state’s executive office, he represented Bayelsa West in the Nigerian Senate.
Witnesses within the Government House said the sudden collapse caused panic among staff, leading to a swift but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to resuscitate him before he was taken to the hospital.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo was known for his legislative and administrative contributions to the state. His death marks a significant political loss for Bayelsa, where he had been a prominent figure for decades.
The Bayelsa State Government is expected to release an official statement shortly. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
