Bayelsa Deputy Governor Seeks Court Protection Against Alleged Impeachment Plot

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking protection against what he described as a politically motivated impeachment plot. The suit names the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, its Speaker, the Nigerian Police Force Inspector-General, the DSS, and other state officials as defendants.

Ewhrudjakpo claims the move to remove him stems from his refusal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party after the Governor resigned from the party. He is requesting interim orders to restrain the Assembly from initiating impeachment proceedings and to prevent the withdrawal of his security detail.

Justice Emeka Nwite has ordered the defendants to show cause by November 13 on why the interim orders should not be granted. The case highlights ongoing political tension in Bayelsa State and could influence how party defections affect elected officials in the state.
