Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has directed that an autopsy be conducted to determine the cause of death of the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died on Thursday at the age of 60.

Governor Diri made the disclosure while receiving former President Goodluck Jonathan on a condolence visit at the Government House. He urged Bayelsans and the general public to refrain from politicising the death or spreading unverified information on social media, stressing the need for unity and calm during the mourning period.

The governor announced three working days of mourning across the state in honour of the late deputy governor, describing Ewhrudjakpo as a dedicated public servant who made invaluable contributions to governance and the development of Bayelsa State.

In his remarks, former President Goodluck Jonathan described the late Ewhrudjakpo as a humble and hardworking leader, noting that he was a strong supporter of initiatives of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.

Following the visit to Government House, Governor Diri and former President Jonathan proceeded to the residence of the deceased to condole with his widow and family.
