On Sunday, U.S. President Joe Biden declared January 9 a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, urging Americans to visit their places of worship to “pay homage” to the late leader.

In a White House proclamation, Biden stated, “I call on the American people to gather on that day in their respective places of worship to honor the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr. I also invite people around the world who share in our grief to join us in this solemn observance.”
