A bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claimed two lives and injured two others on Monday morning.
FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that a police team, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, was deployed to the scene.
“The area was immediately cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a thorough investigation,” Adeh said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu. The visitors are suspected of bringing the improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated.
“Two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the device on the school veranda,” Adeh explained. “The third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment under police guard. The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed it was an IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene.”
The school owner has been taken into custody for questioning, and police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, behavior, or items resembling IEDs to law enforcement authorities.
