Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface is a doubt for Saturday’s Bundesliga home fixture against FC St. Pauli after picking up an injury during training on Tuesday, Bild reports.

The Super Eagles forward went down holding his right foot following a challenge with teammate Julian Malatini. Although he resumed training after receiving treatment, Boniface appeared cautious, frequently checking the sore area.

Fellow Nigerian Felix Agu also sustained a knock to his left shin in the same session and had to watch the remainder of training from a golf cart. Both players are said to be in stable condition and will undergo further assessment in the coming days.

Their availability is of particular interest as the Nigerian national team is set to announce its squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin later this week.

Boniface, 24, joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen this summer and has made three substitute appearances, registering an assist in the club’s 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. He also featured against Bayern Munich last weekend, where he had a goal disallowed for offside.
