The Federal Government has ordered an immediate reinforcement of security operations in Borno State following a deadly bomb explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which claimed about five lives and left several others injured.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who condemned the attack in strong terms, described it as a cruel assault on innocent worshippers and a direct threat to the peace and unity of the country.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify operations across the state, with additional tactical teams already being deployed to track down those behind the attack.

Shettima said the Federal Government would not allow acts of terror to undermine national stability, stressing that security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

The Vice President expressed confidence in the country’s security architecture, noting that ongoing operations would not only lead to the arrest of those responsible but also uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

He extended the Federal Government’s condolences to the Borno State Government, residents of the affected community, and families of the victims, assuring them that those responsible for the attack would face the full weight of the law.

Reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to national security, Shettima said the government remains resolute in its constitutional duty to protect lives, property, and the unity of Nigeria.

He added that the Federal Government is working closely with state authorities and local security agencies to strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure across the North East and other parts of the country.
