The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has revealed that the 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos is facing significant underwater structural issues, with rehabilitation costs estimated at ₦3.6 trillion.
Umahi noted that the findings come after detailed inspections of the bridge’s foundations and substructures, raising urgent concerns about safety and long-term viability. The bridge, a vital link connecting Lagos Island and the mainland, carries hundreds of thousands of vehicles daily.
The Works Ministry is now assessing the timeline and scope for the repair works, with Umahi stressing that timely intervention is critical to prevent further deterioration of the iconic infrastructure.
