The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in both public and private schools, effective from the 2026/27 academic session.
According to the Ministry of Education, the measure is aimed at ensuring consistency in the academic calendar, improving learning outcomes, and addressing disruptions caused by frequent transfers and admissions at the final year of secondary school.
Education authorities have directed all schools to comply with the policy, warning that any violation could attract sanctions. The government also said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen the Senior Secondary School curriculum and examination preparation.
Officials emphasized that the ban does not affect admissions into SS1 and SS2, and that students already enrolled in SS3 for the 2025/26 session will continue their studies as scheduled.
The policy has generated discussions among educators, parents, and students, with stakeholders noting that it could help streamline student progression and improve overall academic performance.
