The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, was reportedly arrested and detained by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, earlier today. Ajaero was en route to an official engagement with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the United Kingdom when he was apprehended.
The arrest comes amid rising tensions between Nigerian labor unions and the government. Ajaero is currently being held at the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). The NLC has condemned this action, calling it an ongoing assault on Nigerian workers and demanding an end to what they describe as intimidation and harassment.
Labor leaders are calling for Ajaero’s immediate release, warning that these actions could further inflame labor unrest in the country.
This intimidation and assault must stop!
