The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the implementation of a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to regulate courier companies operating under the Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) Incoterm.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the development in a statement released on Monday by the Service’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada.
According to the NCS, the new SOP introduces stricter operational guidelines for courier firms involved in DDP transactions. As part of the updated requirements, courier companies seeking to operate under the DDP framework must now obtain an operational licence from the Licence and Permit Unit at the NCS Headquarters, under the Tariff and Trade Department.
The Customs Service said the measure is aimed at strengthening compliance, improving accountability, and ensuring proper regulation of courier activities within Nigeria’s trade and logistics space.
The NCS added that the new framework would enhance transparency in cross-border deliveries and align courier operations with existing customs laws and international trade standards.
