The United States Embassy has announced a new policy requiring Nigerian visa applicants to submit details of their social media history covering the past five years. The embassy stated that the measure is part of enhanced security vetting aimed at strengthening background checks and improving national security.
Applicants will now be required to list all social media platforms and usernames they have used within the specified period, alongside other biographical information already provided during the visa application process.
The U.S. government says the new directive is not targeted at Nigerians alone but applies to most visa applicants worldwide, ensuring greater transparency and monitoring of potential security risks.
