In response to the devastating floods that recently struck Maiduguri, Borno State, BUA Group, one of Africa’s leading conglomerates, has donated N2 billion to aid recovery efforts and support victims. This gesture follows President Bola Tinubu’s call to the private sector to contribute to the relief and rebuilding of the affected communities.
The donation, announced on Monday, consists of N1 billion in cash and another N1 billion worth of essential food supplies, aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and those impacted by the floods. The company made the donation during a visit to Maiduguri, where they delivered food items and the cash contribution to the state government.
Speaking on the donation, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group and founder of ASR Africa, expressed the company’s commitment to standing by Nigerians during times of crisis.
“The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused untold hardship for thousands of families,” Rabiu stated. “At BUA, we believe it is our responsibility, as an organisation deeply rooted in the fabric of Nigerian society, to act swiftly and meaningfully in providing relief to those affected. Our N2 billion donation is our own way of supporting the most vulnerable in times of crisis.”
The N1 billion worth of food supplies includes essential items such as flour, pasta, sugar, and rice. These items will be distributed to the hardest-hit areas to provide immediate relief. In addition, the N1 billion cash donation was handed over to the state government to ensure that aid reaches those in need as quickly as possible.
Rabiu further assured that BUA Group, through its philanthropic arm, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), would continue to monitor the situation and provide the necessary resources to help the people of Maiduguri recover and rebuild after the disaster.
“Our thoughts are with the families and individuals affected by this disaster,” Rabiu said. “As we extend our support, we urge other corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to join us in restoring hope and rebuilding lives.”
This donation is part of BUA Group’s broader commitment to supporting communities in need across Nigeria.
