Reports claiming that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a London hospital have been firmly dismissed by his former media aide, Bashir Ahmad.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ahmad acknowledged that the former president is indeed undergoing medical treatment but stressed that the situation has been exaggerated by online speculation.
“Yes, he is a bit unwell, but not in any critical condition. The reports making the rounds are exaggerated,” Ahmad stated.
He assured Nigerians that Buhari is stable and responding well to treatment, urging the public to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media.
Buhari, who has been in the United Kingdom since April for a medical check-up, is reportedly receiving care from his long-standing personal physicians. Sources close to the family noted that while the former president is under observation, he is not in immediate danger and is expected to make a full recovery.
The clarification follows growing concern sparked by earlier online claims suggesting that Buhari was in critical condition and had been moved to intensive care. These reports trended widely and stirred anxiety among supporters and political observers.
This is not the first time Buhari’s health has attracted public attention. During his presidency, he frequently travelled abroad for medical treatment, including an extended medical leave in 2017 that lasted over 100 days.
The former president’s family and associates have called for calm and prayers as Buhari continues his recovery in London.
