The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the draw for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers on Wednesday, October 9, at its headquarters in Cairo. The tournament, scheduled to take place between February 1 and 28, 2025, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Ahead of the tournament, two rounds of qualifiers will be played on a home-and-away basis. The first round is set for the weekends of October 25-27 and November 1-3, 2024, while the second round will follow on December 20-22 and December 27-29, 2024.
Since its inception in 2009, CHAN has become a premier platform for showcasing African football talent, restricted to players competing in domestic leagues. The competition has gained popularity globally, with Algeria hosting the previous edition in 2022, drawing large crowds and a massive global audience.
CAF has focused on boosting the commercial value of the tournament, reflected in a 60% increase in prize money. The 2025 CHAN champions will take home $2 million, a significant rise in line with CAF’s commitment to enhancing its competitions’ financial strength.
For Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, hosting CHAN 2025 will also serve as a precursor to their preparations for co-hosting the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

• 2011 – Tunisia
