The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank-supported ACReSAL project, has restored more than 30,000 hectares of degraded land to boost environmental recovery and improve livelihoods in the state.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who announced the development during a distribution event in Katsina, said the initiative aims to tackle desertification, climate challenges and declining agricultural productivity in semi-arid communities. He noted that over 2.5 million residents have benefited from ACReSAL interventions so far.
As part of the programme, the state distributed tractors, waste-management trucks, farm inputs and 4,000 energy-efficient stoves to support farmers and promote sustainable practices. The governor also urged residents to embrace responsible waste disposal and land use to sustain progress.
The ACReSAL project focuses on restoring degraded landscapes across northern Nigeria, with Katsina planting millions of trees to curb desert encroachment and enhance climate resilience. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
