Nigeria has released the National Agricultural Sample Survey (NASS) 2023 Report, a major data-driven assessment of the country’s farming sector. The report, launched by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and the World Bank, provides new insights to guide agricultural planning and investment.
The survey covers crop production, livestock, fisheries, land use, and access to farm inputs. Cassava topped major-season outputs at 21.90 million tonnes, followed by yam, maize and rice. In the minor season, onion led with 2.67 million tonnes, while tomato and rice followed.
Livestock numbers reached 273.80 million nationwide, with goats making up almost half. Poultry production hit 683.68 million birds, mostly chickens.
Officials said the report strengthens transparency and supports Nigeria’s commitments under global development initiatives. Anonymised microdata has also been made publicly available to boost research and policy planning. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
