Can Sokoto’s New Onion Storage Facility Reduce Post-Harvest Losses?

Share

Sokoto State has inaugurated a modern onion cold-storage facility in the More area of the metropolis, aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and boosting food security. The project was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).

Governor Ahmad Aliyu described the facility as a major step toward strengthening the state’s agricultural value chain. The storage centre is expected to preserve onions for longer periods, stabilise market prices, and increase farmers’ earnings.

The initiative aligns with wider efforts to modernise Nigeria’s cold-chain infrastructure and promote export-ready agriculture, particularly for perishable crops such as onions. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
