
A canoe accident in Dikwa, Borno State, has resulted in the tragic loss of four lives.
According to a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Command, ASP Nahum Daso, the incident occurred on Monday around 3:30 PM in the Bakassi community, located between Mafa and Dikwa along Maiduguri Road. A canoe carrying passengers capsized in floodwaters, leading to the deaths of four women from Bulabulin Ward, Dikwa.
The victims have been identified as Ya Mallum Shettima, an adult female from Marte LGA, and three children: Maimuna Akura, 10; Umira Alhaji Bulama, 6; and Yagana Bulama Kawu, just five months old.
The bodies were transported to Dikwa General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed their deaths. The remains have since been returned to their families for burial according to Islamic traditions.
