
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) held its fifth meeting of the year on Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13, 2024. The board, which oversees several key security and emergency services in Nigeria, announced a series of important decisions aimed at enhancing the operations of its agencies.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the approval of 20,867 promotions across the board, covering the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS). The breakdown of promotions includes 5,329 for NCOS, 5,112 for NIS, 9,937 for NSCDC, and 489 for FFS.
Special promotions – were also awarded, with two promotions in NCOS, four in NIS, two in NSCDC, and one in FFS.
The board outlined additional critical decisions, including:
1. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Collaboration** in career development courses organized by the four services.
2. Implementation of a new training curriculum** for training institutions within the Federal Fire Service.
3. New schemes of service to be implemented for the Federal Fire Service, signifying a shift towards enhancing the career path and operational capacities of the personnel.
4. The ongoing 2023/2024 Federal Fire Service recruitment exercise is set to be concluded by the end of September 2024, further boosting the workforce in fire and emergency management.
These decisions highlight the CDCFIB’s commitment to improving the efficiency and professionalism of its agencies. The promotions and reforms are expected to bolster the morale and operational capacity of personnel in these vital services.
