Chidimma Adetshina, the Miss South Africa contestant who recently encountered controversy, has confirmed her participation in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
The 23-year-old model’s eligibility for the Miss South Africa competition was questioned due to concerns about her nationality, leading her to withdraw after an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs.
The issue started when Chidimma, who had advanced to the round of 16 in the Miss South Africa pageant, faced significant backlash on social media over her nationality. The debate grew, with calls for her disqualification and an official inquiry into her citizenship.
Chidimma, born in Soweto, South Africa, has Nigerian and Mozambican heritage. Recent allegations by the South African Department of Home Affairs suggested possible fraud and identity theft involving Chidimma’s mother.
In response to these concerns and to protect her family’s safety, Chidimma withdrew from the Miss South Africa finals held on August 10.
Following her withdrawal, she was invited to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant and announced her acceptance on Wednesday.
In a social media post shared by Ben Murray-Bruce, founder of Silverbird Group, Chidimma expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity.
“I am thrilled to announce that I will be participating in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant,” Chidimma said. “I understand the expectations and responsibilities that come with this title and am excited to continue this journey. Thank you for this incredible opportunity. I look forward to competing in Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe Nigeria.”
