Renowned author Chimamanda Adichie says her continued support for presidential hopeful Peter Obi is rooted in her belief in his selfless leadership and genuine commitment to Nigeria’s progress. She described Obi as a rare political figure not driven by ego or desperation for power, but by a genuine desire to serve.

Adichie, who was a vocal supporter of Obi during the 2023 presidential election, praised his humility, consistency, and accountability to the people. She said Obi stands out because he views leadership as a responsibility rather than an opportunity for personal gain, noting that his values have remained unchanged over the 15 years she has known him.

Reflecting on her endorsement of the Labour Party candidate in 2023, Adichie recalled publicly defending him after the disputed polls and criticising the election’s credibility in an open letter to U.S. President Joe Biden. With Obi already expressing interest in contesting the 2027 presidential race, the celebrated writer says her support remains firmly tied to her belief that with the right leader, Nigeria “can be better than we are.”
