Renowned Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters has revealed that he forgave his father, legendary Afro-Juju musician Sir Shina Peters, long before they ever had a conversation about their strained relationship. In a candid interview on the Afropolitan Podcast, Clarence shared that a turning point came in 2014/2015, when he realized he had made nearly all the same mistakes his father did.

“I made every single mistake my father made,” the 41-year-old director confessed. “I’m just lucky that time and tech saved me from it being as catastrophic as his own. So, the moment I realised that, I forgave him instantly even before we had a conversation. That was when I became an adult. That was when I began my journey into adulthood.”

Clarence, the son of music icon Shina Peters and veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura, has previously spoken about the emotional complexities of his family history. In a February 2025 chat with Chude Jideonwo, he admitted struggling not to repeat his father’s patterns, especially in relationships with women, saying, “I tried not to be like my dad with women, but I’m not perfect.” Despite the past, Clarence’s reflections mark a deeply personal journey of growth, forgiveness, and maturity.
