Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, according to journalist David Ornstein.
The 21-year-old, who transferred from Manchester City for £40 million last summer, has quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s top performers. Ornstein shared on X (formerly Twitter) that “Cole Palmer commits future to Chelsea by signing 2-year contract extension. The 22-year-old England attacker was already tied down until 2031; terms are now extended through June 2033. This extension rewards his outstanding debut season after joining from Manchester City.”
Palmer enjoyed a stellar first season in West London, notching 25 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. His exceptional form earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, where he played a crucial role by assisting Ollie Watkins’ semi-final winner and scoring the equalizer in the final against Spain, despite England’s defeat.
Palmer’s new contract reflects his remarkable performances and comes amid Chelsea’s ongoing challenges with their transfer strategy since Clearlake Capital’s acquisition of the club from Roman Abramovich.
Palmer played in Chelsea’s last pre-season match against Inter Milan under new manager Enzo Maresca and is expected to feature in their season opener against his former club, Manchester City, on Sunday.
As Chelsea secures Palmer’s future, uncertainty surrounds another England international, Conor Gallagher. Gallagher had agreed to a £33.7 million move to Atletico Madrid and completed his medical with the La Liga side. However, complications involving a deal with Samu Omorodion moving the other way have put the transfer at risk.
Chelsea has asked Gallagher to return to London while the situation is resolved, with Tottenham reportedly expressing continued interest in the 24-year-old midfielder. Talks between Atletico and Chelsea are ongoing to finalize the deal
