The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the trial of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu to Monday, October 27, to allow him time to begin his defence against terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government. Justice James Omotosho announced the adjournment on Friday after Kanu told the court that his former legal team, led by ex-Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), had not yet handed over his case file.
At the resumed hearing, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) represented the Federal Government and reminded the court that the session had been slated for Kanu to open his defence, as previously directed. The setback prompted the court to grant additional time for the defence to reorganize and prepare adequately before proceedings continue.
Kanu, who has been in custody for several years, faces terrorism-related accusations stemming from his activities as the IPOB leader. His case has drawn significant public attention, with supporters often gathering outside the court during hearings to demand his release and fair trial.
