A Federal High Court in Abuja has once again issued an order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The order follows a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, who argued that he was unlawfully excluded from the nomination process for the position of National Chairman. The court directed that the PDP must halt all preparations for the convention and further instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to monitor or recognise any convention conducted in defiance of the ruling.
The development deepens internal divisions within the opposition party. While one faction insists on going ahead with the convention, another faction—backed by key stakeholders—maintains that the event cannot proceed until all legal and constitutional issues are resolved. Conflicting court orders from Abuja and Oyo have further complicated the situation, creating uncertainty over the party’s next steps.
The injunction places the PDP’s planned election of new national officers in limbo and raises concerns about the party’s readiness and internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
