The Forum of State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has restated its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The group distanced itself from the recent visit of some members to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, describing the move as a personal decision that did not represent the collective position of the bloc.

In a statement signed by its leaders, including National Chairman Kasim Mabo and National Secretary Sulaiman Oyaremi, the Forum clarified that out of its 37 members, 20 remain committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu, while 16 have pledged support for Atiku. The group alleged that opposition figures have been mounting pressure, including financial inducements, to sway its members ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Forum urged the Presidency and APC leadership to urgently address what it described as the continued marginalisation of the CPC bloc within the ruling party. It stressed that despite the defection of some members, the majority remain unwavering in their loyalty to President Tinubu, adding that CPC structures remain a critical link to the grassroots that powered the political relevance of the legacy party under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reaffirming its allegiance, the group expressed support for the leadership of prominent CPC figures such as Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Aminu Masari, and Tajudeen Abbas. It dismissed the Abuja gathering at Atiku’s residence as a ploy to create a false impression of widespread support, stressing that the bloc remains loyal to Tinubu while calling for greater recognition and inclusion within the APC.
