The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among security agencies to effectively combat smuggling and mitigate its adverse effects on Nigeria’s economy.
Speaking at the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja during a lecture for Course 33 participants, Adeniyi underscored the critical role of synergy and mutual understanding in tackling illicit trade and safeguarding economic security.
“No single agency can effectively address the complexities of smuggling without the support and cooperation of others,” Adeniyi stated. “Collaborating with other security agencies is crucial for successful anti-smuggling operations. Only through synergy can we curtail these illegal activities and promote economic growth in Nigeria.”
The lecture served as a platform to explore strategies for combating smuggling and its economic impact. Adeniyi stressed the importance of a unified approach to protect the nation’s economic interests and address the broader security challenges facing the country.
The National Defence College, Nigeria’s leading institution for military and strategic studies, hosts participants from various sectors, including the armed forces, paramilitary organizations, and the civil service.
Senior officers, faculty members, and participants in attendance praised Adeniyi’s presentation as an insightful discussion on the interplay between security and economic protection, highlighting the necessity of inter-agency cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s pressing security concerns.
