A longtime friend of Sean “Diddy” Combs says the music mogul briefly faced a life-threatening scare inside a New York detention center when, according to the friend, an inmate slipped into his cell and pressed a makeshift blade to his throat while Combs slept. Charlucci Finney told the Daily Mail that Combs “woke up with a knife to his throat,” and it is unclear whether the rapper fought back or guards intervened — though Finney stressed the episode appeared meant as intimidation rather than a clear attempt to kill him.
The incident, first described publicly during recent court proceedings and repeated to media outlets, underscores long-standing concerns about violence and safety inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a facility that has drawn scrutiny for dangerous conditions and inmate attacks. Combs has spent much of his custody time at MDC Brooklyn, and lawyers have previously raised his safety in court; reports say the episode highlighted the risks high-profile inmates face in jails where makeshift weapons are common.
Finney framed the episode as a warning — “If this guy had wanted to harm him, Sean would have been harmed,” he said — and suggested it was meant to frighten rather than finish the job. The claim has circulated across several outlets while officials have not publicly confirmed the full details, leaving questions about how the incident unfolded and what protections will be put in place for Combs going forward.
