Dangote Group Clarifies NNPC Petrol Lifting: Refutes Reports on Pricing

In response to recent media reports, the Dangote Group has issued a press statement to address claims surrounding the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) lifting of refined petrol from its refinery and pricing. A headline in *BusinessDay* on September 4, 2024, had claimed that “NNPC lifts Dangote Petrol, sells at ₦897 per litre.”

The Dangote Group emphasized that NNPC has not yet commenced lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. As a result, any discussions on pricing related to Dangote’s petrol do not apply, as their contract with NNPC is still pending finalization.

The company highlighted that the PMS market is highly regulated, and all pricing decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the government authorities. Therefore, Dangote cannot determine or fix petrol prices.

Dangote urged the public to disregard the misleading headline and reassured Nigerians that they are committed to providing high-quality petroleum products nationwide.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, issued the statement, dated September 4, 2024.
