Lagos, Nigeria — The Dangote Group has clarified that no fresh legal case has been filed against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) or other parties. In a press statement released on October 21, 2024, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, confirmed that the issue in question was an old matter dating back to June 2024, which culminated in a filing on September 6, 2024.

The dispute was related to President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined products sales under the Naira Initiative, which had been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). However, ongoing discussions between the parties have resulted in significant progress, prompting the decision to pause the legal process.

According to the statement, none of the parties involved have been served with court documents, and there is no intention to pursue legal action at this time. Chiejina emphasized that the decision to halt the proceedings reflects the evolution of the discussions and the desire to resolve the matter without further court involvement.

The Dangote Group also confirmed that no court orders or adverse effects have impacted any party. The company expressed optimism that by the time the case is formally revisited in January 2025, they would be in a position to fully withdraw the matter from court.

This development comes as part of wider efforts to stabilize the oil sector and align with the government’s economic initiatives under the current administration.
