Dangote Installs Cameras on CNG Trucks, Tightens Driver Rules

Dangote Cement Plc has begun installing cameras on its fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks and is recertifying all drivers in a sweeping safety overhaul.

The move follows rising public concern over road crashes involving the company’s vehicles.

Under the new policy, drivers must be at least 23 years old, have five years of experience, and hold a Class G licence. They are also subject to medical screenings, drug and alcohol tests, and criminal background checks.

Dangote is working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to deliver monthly refresher courses through its Drivers Training School. Participation in training and inspections has significantly increased.

The company has also set up a Pre-Trip Inspection Bay, Help Desks to monitor journeys, and a Drivers’ Rest House at its Obajana plant.

Head of Transport, Murilo Silva, said the measures reinforce Dangote’s “zero tolerance for avoidable crashes.”
