Dangote Refinery Assures NUPENG Strike Will Not Trigger Fuel Shortage

The Dangote Refinery has assured Nigerians that the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers NUPENG will not lead to fuel shortages. A spokesperson for the refinery, Anthony Chiejina, said operations remain stable and that there is no cause for panic, despite disruptions in fuel loading at some depots across the country.

The strike, which began on Monday, was called over allegations of excluding new tanker drivers from joining the union. While the industrial action has affected distribution in parts of the downstream sector, the refinery has put contingency measures in place, including deploying its own drivers to maintain supply.

Talks are currently ongoing between the refinery, union leaders, and government officials aimed at resolving the dispute. Meanwhile, the Federal Government has appealed for constructive engagement to protect workers’ rights while safeguarding uninterrupted fuel supply across the nation.
