Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has announced a strategic partnership with international petrochemicals distributor Vinmar Group to export its polypropylene products to global markets.
The refinery began producing 25kg bags of polypropylene for the domestic market in March, marking a key milestone in Nigeria’s industrial manufacturing drive.
Currently, Nigeria imports approximately 90% of its annual polypropylene demand, estimated at 250,000 metric tonnes. The new facility aims to reverse this trend by not only meeting local demand but also positioning the country as a net exporter.
“We are pleased to partner with Vinmar to introduce Dangote Polypropylene to global markets,” said Fatima Aliko Dangote, Executive Director at Dangote Group, during the facility’s launch on Wednesday.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to be the largest polypropylene production facility in Africa, with two production units boasting capacities of 500,000 metric tonnes and 330,000 metric tonnes per year, respectively.
