The management of Dangote Refinery has accused the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) of misleading Nigerians with claims about pricing and supply of petroleum products.
In a statement on Monday, the refinery explained that although more than 60 percent of the crude oil it processes is imported, it has continued to sell petrol at rates below the international benchmark across Sub-Saharan Africa. The company argued that contrary to DAPPMAN’s position, fuel prices from its refinery remain more competitive than in neighbouring markets, adding that allegations of higher domestic pricing were false.
Dangote further alleged that some marketers were engaged in round-tripping by exporting petrol from Nigeria to Togo and then re-importing the same products into the country at inflated prices. The refinery said the narrative being promoted by DAPPMAN was an attempt to derail its initiatives aimed at easing logistics and cutting delivery costs for Nigerian consumers.
