A Danish lawmaker has gone viral after bluntly telling U.S. President Donald Trump to “f–k off” during an impassioned speech in the European Parliament over Trump’s repeated interest in acquiring Greenland.
Anders Vistisen, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Denmark, was delivering a speech when he issued a sharp warning to Trump, declaring that Greenland is “not for sale.” His remarks were aimed at the U.S. president’s long-standing and controversial statements about wanting to seize or purchase the Arctic territory.
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and a strategic region in the Arctic. Denmark is also a NATO ally of the United States, making Trump’s comments about taking control of the territory especially sensitive diplomatically.
During his speech, Vistisen grew increasingly forceful as he defended Greenland’s sovereignty and autonomy, telling Trump in unmistakable terms to back off. Moments later, he was cut off, with parliamentary officials intervening over the use of profanity on the chamber floor.
The clip of the outburst quickly spread online, drawing widespread attention and mixed reactions. Some praised Vistisen for his blunt defense of Greenland and Danish sovereignty, while others criticized his language as inappropriate for a formal parliamentary setting.
Trump has, on several occasions over the years, publicly expressed his desire for the United States to acquire Greenland, citing its strategic importance and natural resources. Those remarks have consistently been rejected by both Danish and Greenlandic officials.
Vistisen’s speech underscores growing frustration in Europe over what many see as provocative and unrealistic rhetoric from the U.S. president regarding Greenland’s future.
