Datti Disputes Obi’s Alleged Defection to ADC, Urges LP to Produce Resignation Letter

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s (LP) vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has disputed claims that Peter Obi has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that no such declaration was made by the former Anambra State governor.

Speaking on the matter, Baba-Ahmed said Obi’s recent comments in Enugu only referenced joining a coalition, not a formal defection to the ADC. He urged the public and the media to carefully review Obi’s remarks before drawing conclusions.

“It will be good if everyone listens to Peter Obi’s comments at Enugu. He mentioned joining the coalition. I don’t believe I heard him say defection to the ADC,” Baba-Ahmed said. “I did not hear that; maybe I missed it, but please find out if he said joining the coalition or the ADC.”

The former senator further challenged the Labour Party leadership to clarify the situation by stating whether Obi had completed the required formalities to exit the party. According to him, a resignation letter is a critical step in any defection process and should be made public if it exists.

Baba-Ahmed’s comments come amid growing speculation over Obi’s political alignment ahead of future electoral contests, with conflicting reports fueling debate within the Labour Party and the broader opposition space.
