At the launch event, moderated by Rolling Stone reporter Mankaprr Conteh, Davido reflected on his journey, sharing anecdotes about his humble beginnings and his initial aspirations of having his music played on Nigerian radio. Discussing the latest collection, Davido explained, “You know the first collection, we were just testing the waters. Because it was a risk for them. Yes, people love my music, but it is different from people loving your music and people buying your products.”
This launch comes at a time of renewed tension between Davido and fellow artist Wizkid, who recently reignited their rivalry following Davido’s announcement of his first single for 2024. Wizkid further stirred the pot by taunting Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, in a series of provocative tweets.
In response to a supporter of Davido, Wizkid claimed he had turned down a lucrative deal with PUMA, stating, “U idiot! I turned down Puma cos they could no longer afford to pay me cos I wanted more! Don’t need dat! Way bigger than every artiste you just mentioned! Not jealous! Love em all…With ur dirty ass shirt! Idiot!” This comment was interpreted by fans as a clear attempt to assert his dominance over Davido.
Despite the escalating tension, Davido has opted to maintain his composure on social media, refraining from addressing Wizkid’s remarks directly. Instead, he appears focused on promoting his latest fashion collection, which has already garnered positive attention.
