Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s mining sector as a vital component of the nation’s economic growth. Speaking at a press briefing for the 9th edition of Nigeria Mining Week, set for November 18-20, 2024, Alake highlighted the event’s theme, “From the Inside Out: Building the Mining Sector to be the Cornerstone of Nigeria’s Economy,” which aims to foster dialogue and strategies to position mining as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy.
Alake stated that this year’s theme underscores the need for a robust mining sector capable of contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic resilience. “We look forward to discussions that will focus on strengthening Nigeria’s mining industry, encouraging investment, and fostering sustainable practices that can drive job creation, infrastructure development, and a diversified economy,” he said.
The Nigeria Mining Week is expected to bring together government officials, industry leaders, investors, and stakeholders to explore opportunities and address challenges in the sector. Alake expressed optimism that the event would serve as a platform for unveiling initiatives aimed at making the mining industry a central pillar of Nigeria’s economic transformation.
