The Delta State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIPCO Gas Limited to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion center in Asaba. This initiative aims to promote eco-friendly transportation by enabling residents to convert their petrol-powered vehicles to CNG.

The agreement was signed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu; Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure; and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, on behalf of the Delta State Government. Mr. Sanjay Tarat represented NIPCO Gas Limited at the signing ceremony in Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori’s Commitment to Green Energy

Speaking on the importance of the project, Dr. Emu emphasized Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. He highlighted the government’s support by providing a 3,000-square-meter facility in Asaba for the CNG conversion center.

“The conversion to CNG is the way to go; the governor was among the very few governors who drove in an EV and CNG vehicles,” said Emu.

He further noted that the state government prioritizes timely execution and quality projects, warning that the MoU would be revoked if NIPCO Gas Limited fails to meet expectations.

“Timelines are very critical to us. Please, endeavour to keep to timelines. I am sure you have heard about His Excellency’s penchant for timelines and quality jobs on the social media space. We shall not hesitate to revoke this MoU on account of your inability to perform,” he stated.

The Future of CNG in Delta State

As Nigeria transitions towards cleaner, cost-effective energy sources, the Delta State Government is taking proactive steps to establish the necessary CNG infrastructure. The new conversion center is expected to encourage eco-friendly transportation, reduce fuel costs for motorists, and contribute to lower carbon emissions.

With Delta State emerging as a leader in green energy adoption, the partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited signifies a bold step toward a sustainable transportation future.
