The Defence Headquarters has refuted reports claiming that the French military plans to establish a base in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, addressed the circulating rumors about the arrival of French soldiers in the country. He emphasized that these reports were entirely false.
“The Defence Headquarters has been made aware of online reports suggesting the arrival of French soldiers in Maiduguri to set up a French military base in North East Nigeria,” the statement read. “We categorically state that this information is fake, misleading, and completely false. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa CFR, recently addressed this issue in various media, dismissing such claims.”
Buba urged the public to ignore these baseless rumors, describing them as the work of mischief-makers. He assured that the Nigerian military would continue to fulfill its constitutional duties with professionalism, safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
