Airforce School Kano Shut Down Over Suspected Diphtheria Outbreak

The Airforce Comprehensive School in Kano State has been temporarily closed following a suspected outbreak of diphtheria.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that an SS3 student succumbed to the disease last week, with another student currently hospitalized. On Tuesday evening, some boarding students were seen leaving the school, located within the Airforce Base in Kano.

According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the school has been closed until the second term begins in January 2025. “The students were discharged, and the school will remain closed as a precautionary measure,” the source said.

A directive issued by the Base Service Group (BSG) on Tuesday night instructed all returning students to report to the 465 NAF Hospital in Kano for clinical evaluation at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

“This measure is to ensure the Base Community is safeguarded from any potential spread of the disease. Kindly disseminate and comply,” the statement read.
