The Department of State Services has refuted claims that its agents stormed the Nigerian Labour Congress headquarters in Abuja.

It was stated on Wednesday that armed individuals who appeared to be DSS employees broke into the NLC headquarters and stole multiple documents.

The incident allegedly happened at 8:30 p.m., when agents allegedly broke into the Labour House, according to the NLC.

The attackers trashed the second-floor bookstore, stealing hundreds of books and other publications, according to Benson Upah, Head of Media and Public Relations at NLC.

“The invading team claimed that they were searching for seditious materials allegedly used during the #EndBadGovernance protests,” Upah said.

Nonetheless, the NLC stated that it was not able to quickly determine the complete amount of goods taken during the operation.

DSS Spokesperson Peter Afunanya, however, denied the allegation on Thursday, saying the agency was not involved in the event.

“Good morning dear friends. Please note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja,” Afunanya said in a brief statement.

The NLC, meanwhile, has asked that the security personnel leave its property right now and denounced what it called an illegal invasion.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress condemns in its entirety this new low in security operations in Nigeria. The armed security operatives showed no legal documents permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress at the ungodly hour of the night,” the NLC said in a statement.

The NLC further expressed its dismay by pointing out that the NLC secretariat had never been the target of such an attack, not even in the dark days of military dictatorship.
