The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, securing 291,667 votes in a tightly contested race. The final results, announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw the APC defeating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), which garnered 247,274 and 22,763 votes, respectively.

The APC’s win marks a significant shift in Edo State politics, as the PDP had been a major contender throughout the election period. Despite a strong showing, the PDP ultimately fell short by 44,393 votes.

The Labour Party, though a rising political force in many states across Nigeria, managed only 22,763 votes in Edo, underscoring the dominance of the two major parties in the state.

Following the announcement, APC supporters across Edo State celebrated their party’s victory, hailing the results as a mandate for progress and development. The newly elected APC candidate has promised to prioritize economic growth, job creation, and infrastructural development, pledging to build on the party’s momentum.

Meanwhile, PDP leaders have expressed disappointment with the outcome but pledged to continue working toward the betterment of Edo State, while LP supporters called for a renewed focus on grassroots mobilization in future elections.

With the results finalized, attention now shifts to the transition process and the incoming administration’s plans to deliver on its campaign promises for the people of Edo State.
