Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, announced on Wednesday the immediate dissolution of all boards of state agencies and parastatals, effectively removing non-civil service appointees from their roles. This directive, conveyed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Fred Itua, also mandates that the affected officials relinquish all government properties in their possession.

According to the statement, “The dissolution of the executives of all boards, agencies, and parastatals is with immediate effect.” Governor Okpebholo’s directive also includes the termination of appointments of all political appointees and permanent secretaries who were appointed from outside the state’s public or civil service.

“All affected appointees are to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior public officer in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies,” the statement added.

The governor’s decision is seen as a significant reshuffle in Edo State’s government structure, indicating a possible overhaul of its agencies and departments. This move aligns with the governor’s commitment to streamlining governance and is expected to pave the way for new appointees who align with his administration’s vision for Edo State.

Observers believe that this sweeping decision may be the first in a series of reforms under Governor Okpebholo’s administration, aimed at reinforcing accountability and efficiency within the state’s public institutions.
