Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has reaffirmed that the country’s economic transformation hinges on responsible and visionary leadership capable of sustaining reforms and driving inclusive growth.

Speaking at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, with the theme “Better Leadership for a Better Nigeria,” the Minister commended Ms. Arumah Oteh for creating a platform that invests in nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Mr. Edun stressed that leadership development is essential to ensuring stability, innovation, and long-term prosperity.

“Our economic future rests on leadership that listens, learns, and leads with purpose — ensuring that every reform delivers growth and opportunity,” he said.

Highlighting some of the government’s ongoing initiatives, Edun noted the digital cash transfer programme that has reached 8.1 million Nigerians, with a target of 15 million beneficiaries, and the Ward-Based Development Programme designed to support small businesses and boost productivity across more than 8,000 wards nationwide. He said these efforts reflect how leadership can translate policy into meaningful impact on citizens’ lives.

The Minister reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains focused on macroeconomic stability, fiscal transparency, and inclusive development, emphasizing that effective leadership at all levels is key to unlocking Nigeria’s full economic potential.

“With responsible leadership and continued reform, Nigeria is well positioned for sustainable growth that benefits citizens and strengthens private sector confidence,” he added.

Mr. Edun also congratulated Ms. Oteh and the Oxford Global Think Tank for fostering dialogue and collaboration toward building a more resilient and prosperous Nigeria.
