The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Usman Yusuf, over allegations of fraud and misconduct.

The Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest in a telephone conversation with Channels Television on Wednesday. He stated that EFCC operatives raided Yusuf’s residence before taking him into custody.

According to the Commission, the former NHIS boss will be arraigned on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Professor Yusuf’s arrest follows a petition submitted to the presidency under former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Health, accusing him of fraudulent practices. In 2019, he was dismissed from office after a fact-finding panel recommended his removal over the alleged mismanagement of N919 million.

Further details on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
