EFCC Condemns Skit Makers for Unauthorized Use of Its Equipment

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed strong disapproval over the unauthorized use of its operational equipment by skit makers and social media content creators for entertainment purposes. The anti-graft agency issued a stern warning, urging skit makers to cease such practices immediately.

The EFCC’s warning was made public through a post shared on Monday, September 23, which highlighted the resurfacing of an old video titled “EFCC and Army Wahala” across social media platforms. The video, a satirical depiction of the Commission’s operations, shows supposed EFCC operatives terrorizing individuals, a portrayal that the Commission finds damaging to its public image.

“The video titled ‘EFCC and Army Wahala’ is a caricature of the operational etiquette of the EFCC. The shameful portrayal of operatives unleashing terror on suspects is not only embarrassing but also suggests a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the EFCC,” the statement read.

The Commission stressed that its operatives are professional, well-trained law enforcement officers who uphold decency, civility, and respect for the public, including those accused of economic and financial crimes.

“Skit makers are warned again to desist from the unauthorized use of the accoutrements of the Commission,” the EFCC added.

This is not the first time the EFCC has raised concerns over its portrayal in skits and videos. The agency has repeatedly cautioned content creators against using its name or operational tools in a way that could mislead the public or undermine its efforts in combating financial crimes.
